A Terracotta Bust - Augustin PAJOU (1730-1809) and workshop

Bust Of Woman In Terracotta
signed and dated 1774.
Mounted on pedestal, it is a very high-quality workshop casting (hand-picked in the hair and drapery), probably executed during the artist's lifetime, but we do not do not know how many copies. What is interesting is that a model of the same size is in the collections of the museum of Fine Arts in Boston, on a pedestal of white marble.
It belonged to David David-Weill in 1937, who gave it to Wildenstein in 1940, who himself sold it to Forsyth Wickes, who bequeathed it to the museum in 1965 (n ° 103 of the catalog of the expo of 1992)
Very good condition ; a watercolor whitewash of natural earth color was affixed formerly. Height with base: 26,5
